Is this a treatment that a world-renowned scientist deserves in a vibrant and functioning democracy? The way Mr. Sonam Vamchuk was picked up from Jantar Mantar, from the stage this morning, was really an unfortunate sight. You had several men who came onto the stage and who kind of covered him with a white sheet and took him forcefully in a government ambulance to a government hospital nearby. It was against his will. He resisted. He didn't want to go. In fact, yesterday he said that, you know, I don't want to be hospitalized. I want to stay here and continue my hunger strike till there's a dialogue that is initiated from the government. Gaukush Jandapati spokespersons are also saying that this amounts to contempt of court because the Delhi police has cited observations by the Delhi High Court to take Mr. Sonam Vajjuk forcefully to a hospital. The High Court had said that every citizen's life is precious and the government must intervene. the government had said that all medical intervention will be provided The supporters here say that Minister Wangchuk vitals were completely normal and it wasn really an urgent situation that warranted such a response from the Delhi police The Cockroach Janta Party is also saying that Mr. Vangchuk is currently under illegal detention. The Delhi police's stand is that he needed essential care and that's something that cannot be provided here at Jantar Mantar which is why he needs to be taken to the hospital. But beyond the legality of it, think about the message this image sends out. Historically in India, we've seen images of top political leaders arriving at the protest site to feed the hunger strikers themselves so that the hunger strike ends. Contrast those images with this image of a 59-year-old man being picked up against his will. He's not a dead man that you cover him with a white cloth and take him away. He's a man with high spirits despite 20 days of hunger strike, who was willing to risk his life here for a better education system. Instead of initiating a dialogue, what message is the government sending by getting Mr. Wang Chuk picked up from the protest site?
