This is Tahir Hussain, a former councillor from the Aam Aadmi Party. Now, he has been convicted for the murder of an intelligence officer during the 2020 Delhi riots. Let me tell you what the entire case is. During the Northeast Delhi riots in 2020, 53 people were killed. Most of them were Muslim civilians, while two were security personnel. Intelligence Bureau Officer Ankit Sharma and Delhi Police Head Constable Ratan Lal. Ankit Sharma had left his house around 5pm, evening of 20th February 2020, and he never returned after that. He was just 26 years old and his body was later found in a drain. The police said that he was stabbed 51 times during these riots. He reportedly had injuries on his head, face, chest, back and on his waist. Now, a Delhi court has said that it has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that former ARP leader Tahir Hussain was a part of the mob that killed Ankit Sharma. The court has said that Hussain was a member of an unlawful group that had assembled with an animus against Hindus and that had the common objective of rioting, arson and causing harm to the Hindu community. The court had said that this mob surrounded abducted and then brutally assaulted Agkit Sharma before murdering him The Delhi Police special cell that investigating the UAPA case against Tahir Hussain also alleges that he was a conspirator in the riots and that rioters used his building terrace to throw stones and petrol bombs during these riots Though the Delhi court has acquitted Hussain of the criminal conspiracy charge, they have found him guilty of both murder and rioting. Four others who were accused with Hussain, Nazim, Kasim, Javed and Anas have also been convicted. Now yes, the Aam Aadmi Party had suspended this counsellor after this incident in 2020 but when these riots happened, when Ankit Sharma was murdered by a mob that included Tahir Hussain, Hussain was a sitting councillor from the Aam Aadmi Party from Nehru Bihar. He had been a councillor for three years before 2020 which tells us that he played a role in these riots and in this murder while holding power as an AAP councillor. So though the Aam Aadmi Party has completely distanced itself from this man ever since this incident happened, there's still a question on how such a man who could do this made it to the party and got a ticket to contest elections in the first place? Yes, you can't tell who's going to commit a crime in the future, but were there lapses in the due diligence and background checks of the Aam Aadmi Party?
