Forest ‘Fraud’ Files

You have seen images of Sonam Vangchuk and the Cockroach Janta Party protesting in Delhi. But these are images nobody else will show you. These are tribal men and women who are protesting against the Ken Betwa River Linking Project. It's the first river interlinking project of India. They say that their land has been taken away. Their access to forest resources has been taken away. Their entire livelihood depends on forests. All of that has been taken away. Thousands of families have been affected. Look at these men and women who have been here for days on end lying on symbolic pyres saying that we are ready to be burnt alive. Burn us alive. But give us adequate compensation. What are you asking for? Money. What are you asking for? We have put our money. You are asking for money. If we put our money, it will be 50,000 or 40,000. Will we build a house in this? The government is asking if you have been given compensation. No, we haven't. You haven't been given compensation. We haven't been given. And people are saying that there has been a lot of corruption. The rich have got the compensation, but you haven't. We haven't. The poor haven't been given the compensation. The rich have been given the compensation, but we haven't. What do you want?
