Vincent John, a 69-year-old man, has scammed more than 300 hotels in India for almost 40 years. He was arrested multiple times but released due to lack of evidence. His modus operandi involves checking into luxury hotels, sweet-talking staff, and stealing expensive items.

You might think this is a regular old Indian uncle. But this 69-year-old man has scammed more than 300 hotels in India for almost 40 years. His story is unbelievable than many Bollywood conman movies. So make sure you watch this video till the end. Vincent John was first arrested in 1991. He was arrested again in 1996. And reportedly again in 2003, 2016, 2020 and now in 2026. All for the same crime. He's from Tamil Nadu, well-spoken in English, neatly dressed and knows exactly how high-end hotels function. And his modus operandi is very simple. He checks into a luxury hotel, introduces himself as a yoga instructor, or an English teacher, or sometimes even a tour guide. Sometimes he's Michael Joseph, Vijay Karan, Rajiv Desai. Depends on his mood, really. And he always has just two bags. One bag contains his clothes and other utilities. The other has newspapers and pillows. That's the bag John uses to quietly sneak out expensive hotel items. John arrives, sweet talks his way to the staff, enjoy all their hotel's opulent facilities, and then checks out a few days later without paying. But why do hotels let him go? When he leaves the hotel, he leaves one of his bags in his room, which makes the hotel staff think he's going to be back in a few hours. This is how John has allegedly duped more than 300 hotels across India, and this has been going on since the 1990s Over the years he has stolen everything from expensive liquor cigarette cartons and laptops worth nearly 1 lakh rupees Now who his inspiration Apparently, it was during his time in Tihar jail in 1996 that he heard stories of Charles Shobaraj, the famed bikini killer, which inspired him to continue pulling off his hotel cons. But why does he keep doing it? Well, back in 2003, John claimed that a five-star hotel cheated him of 2000 rupees. When he confronted the staff, they abused and humiliated him. That's when he decided to take revenge on these luxury hotels. And this revenge of his has been carried out almost everywhere from West Bengal to Karnataka, Goa, Delhi and very recently Chhattisgarh. Most of the times he's arrested but then he's released just after a few months because every arrest is usually linked to just one specific FIR. He gets arrested in that particular case, spends a few months in jail and walks out. Cases registered in other states often don't translate into one long prison term. However, after his latest arrest in Raipur, John claimed this would finally be his last crime. He said he now wants to move to an old age home in Goa where he also has some ancestral land. But you know what? He said the exact same thing after his arrest in 2020.
