Summary
The government has ended Mr. Sonam Vangchuk's 26-day hunger strike after negotiations, but the protests will continue as the CJP demands the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and compensation for NEET aspirants who died by suicide.
“This has been done keeping in view the possible violence in the country because so many people have come out on the streets more than a lakh people came on July 20 and we've seen there have been incidents of stone pelting so this is an important statement that he's making that the government might have done this to prevent more violence yes because I can tell you that the government internally is of course looking at it as a security situation as well given the fact that you have thousands of students sitting on the street sitting on one of the main roads of Delhi but you know this image of a former BJP president sitting minister, a union health minister, the union health minister, breaking Mr. Wangchuk's fast is a big political message.”From the report
We have breaking news. The government has got Mr. Sonam Vangchuk to end his hunger strike on day 26 of his Anshan. Mr. Vangchuk has tweeted this out officially as well and he has said that Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh came and I finally broke my fast. He has also said, very importantly Vedant, that this has been done after a long round of negotiations with the government but also he has written that this was done keeping in view the possible violence in the country because so many people have come out on the streets more than a lakh people came on July 20 and we've seen there have been incidents of stone pelting so this is an important statement that he's making that the government might have done this to prevent more violence yes because I can tell you that the government internally is of course looking at it as a security situation as well given the fact that you have thousands of students sitting on the street sitting on one of the main roads of Delhi but you know this image of a former BJP president sitting minister, a union health minister, the union health minister, breaking Mr. Wangchuk's fast is a big political message. You also have the minister of state for PMO, Mr. Jitendra Singh. These two people were appointed as point people by the government to negotiate with Mr. Wangchuk. And what were the three conditions that Mr. Wangchuk had said need to be fulfilled for him to break the fast? First, of course, there should be no punitive action, he said, on the students who participated in the July 20th march. Secondly, adequate compensation must be given to the families students who died by suicide because of the NEET paper leak. And thirdly, the NEET issue being discussed in detail in Parliament. All three demands have been met because Mr. Wangchuk has now broken his fast. But Priyanshi, things are moving fast. You have Mr. Wangchuk ending his fast. You have the Education Secretary being transferred. You have the Prime Minister now for the first time making a direct outreach almost to the people. So of course, the government and the CJP, Mr. Wangchuk, there was a deadlock. But things are now moving fast as far as some sort of negotiations, some sort of a middle ground is concerned. One deadlock has ended which is Mr. Vangchuk's hunger strike but let us also tell you that this doesn't mean that the Cockroach Janta Party's protest will end because their demand is the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and also one crore compensation for the families of neat aspirants who died by suicide. We have no confirmation on Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. That wasn't a condition even for Mr. Sonam Vangchuk to end his hunger strike and even for compensation he has only asked for adequate compensation and one crore amount is not what his demand was. So while the hunger strike has ended, the protests will continue and the government will have to agree to more of these demands for that to end.
