From the report
when you say that the government is deliberately and in a targeted way going after muslim students and dalit students you're suggesting i imagine that the government is trying to communalize the situation to divide the protesters in terms of religion and in terms of caste yes sir most definitely when you look at the figures that are coming out of west bengal earlier there were 14 students out of which 13 students were muslim students and our uh our friends comrades they're all in touch with these students there's an entire team of lawyers which is representing representing them and most of these students they are not miscreants they are not people who incited any form of violence they are simple students students who are studying in kolkata So many of them are also not student activists. They're just people who joined these protests against paper leak. When I went to Patna, one of our comrades, her name is Saba, when she was picked up on the 24th one day before the Bihar Bandh call she was kept in the police station for 20 to 24 hours And she was specifically targeted on her Muslim identity She was called a terrorist It was said that she would be encountered Similarly, this man who I was talking about, who was admitted in Medanka, who had a bullet through his leg. When the police asked him what his name was, he told them. And he's a Dalit student. When he said that he was a Dalit student, the police beat him up on the same leg where he had gotten injured by the bullet. This is what the police is doing. This protest where nobody talked about the fact that this is Muslim, this is Hindu, where there was no such divide in terms of caste and religion. This crackdown is what is creating a divide among students. this protest which carried on in unity in complete unity of students with each other that protest the crackdown on that protest is completely anti-Muslim, it is anti-Balik and there is an attempt to divide protesters and so that one does not come out in solidarity with the other, one does not stand against the repression of another, that is what the attempt is right now
