Hundreds of internally displaced persons or IDPs from Manipur's Kangpokpi district staged a protest on July 31, demanding the immediate release of the pending Direct Benefit Transfer or DBT. The protesters said that the financial assistance has become their only means of survival after losing their homes and livelihoods in the ethnic conflict. The protest, organized by the Kangpokpi District Internally Displaced Welfare Committee or KDIDWC, saw participation from displaced families, students, women, elderly persons and social workers. Several Kukizu leaders including Dr. Lamping Thang Haukip also joined the demonstration. carrying placards reading no home no job no dbt how do you survive my child is hungry where is dbt and dbt is our right not a favor the protesters urged the state government to immediately release the pending july 2026 dbt they also demanded equal treatment for all displaced persons saying assistance should not differentiate between those staying in relief camps and those living in rented accommodation.
